On January 28, 2009, Congressman Barrow joined a majority in the House of Representatives in supporting the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. On Monday, January 18, 2010, Congressman Barrow spoke at the CSRA Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Day Observance at Paine College.  The event, which was keynoted by Barrow's colleague, Congressman Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island, was united under the theme, "We are One in the Spirit:  Preparing the Way for Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."

On January 16, 2010, Congressman Barrow was in Sylvania in Screven County for the annual Screven County Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration.  Despite the rainy weather, many folks came out to honor the memory and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  The celebration included an assembly after the parade at the Screven County Courthouse, at which Congressman Barrow addressed the crowd.
