On January 28, 2009, Congressman Barrow joined a majority in the House of Representatives in supporting the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The bill was signed into law by the President on February 17, 2009. Here, you can see how stimulus dollars are being spent at home in Georgia's 12th Congressional District.

On October 30, 2009, Congressman Barrow visited with students, administration, and faculty at M.E. Lewis Elementary in Sparta.  The school was recently slated to receive 25 gently-used computers through the government's Computers for Learning (CFL) program.  This program donates computers from federal agencies to schools and other organizations in need.  For more information about the program, call 866-333-7472 or visit http://computersforlearning.gov/.

On Friday, October 9, 2009, Congressman Barrow hosted an Open House at his new district office located in the City Hall Annex in downtown Milledgeville.  Congressman Barrow has district offices in Augusta, Savannah, Vidalia, Sandersville, and now Milledgeville.  Milledgeville, once Georgia's state capital, is one of the largest towns in Georgia's 12th Congressional District.

On October 3, 2009, Congressman Barrow participated in a ribbon cutting at the new headquarters building of the 165th Airlift Wing and Combat Readiness Training Center.  The unit, based at Savannah / Hilton Head International Airport, flies C-130 cargo aircraft around the world.  Congressman Barrow helped the Georgia Air National Guard get funding for a barracks facility that will be opening soon at the 165th.

BARROW VOTES TO EXTEND UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE BENEFITS, HOMEBUYERS’ TAX CREDIT, BUSINESS TAX RELIEF TO STIMULATE LOCAL ECONOMY November 5, 2009

Washington, D.C. - Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) voted today to extend unemployment benefits, the homebuyers' tax credit, and tax relief for military families and businesses.  The Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act will provide immediate assistance, extending relief to millions of workers, families, and businesses nationwide.  It will provide stability to American families hit hardest by the recession.

BARROW VOTES TO FURTHER PROTECT CONSUMERS FROM UNFAIR, ABUSIVE CREDIT CARD COMPANIES November 4, 2009

Washington, D.C. - Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) voted today to accelerate critical reforms that will protect consumers from the abusive practices of credit card companies. The Expedited CARD Reform for Consumers Act will limit the worst practices of credit card companies before the full Credit CARD Act takes effect by moving up the start date of much of what that law requires. The Credit CARD Act, which was signed into law in May of this year, imposed tough regulations on the credit card industry and empowered consumers by giving them the tools they need to manage their own credit.

Barrow to Host Job Fair in Savannah on Monday, November 9 November 4, 2009

Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) knows that, with unemployment at historic highs, folks in Savannah may need some help looking for a job.  That's why he's bringing together local businesses and employers to host a job fair in Savannah on Monday, November 9, 2009.  The job fair will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Savannah Civic Center.  This event is free and open to the public.

Barrow Announces $500,000 for Industrial Energy Efficiency Projects in Savannah November 3, 2009

Washington, D.C. - Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) announced today that the Department of Energy (DOE) is awarding $500,000 in funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to the Savannah-based Energy Resources Division of the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority for industrial energy efficiency projects.

Barrow Announces the Start of Special Payments for Service Members Who Served Under Stop Loss Orders October 22, 2009

Washington, D.C. - Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) announced today that special payments are available to over 185,000 service members who have had their enlistments involuntarily extended since September 11, 2001, providing $500 for every month they were held under stop-loss orders.  Congress established this payment in the 2009 War Supplemental Appropriations Act enacted this summer.
