On January 28, 2009, Congressman Barrow joined a majority in the House of Representatives in supporting the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The bill was signed into law by the President on February 17, 2009. Here, you can see how stimulus dollars are being spent at home in Georgia's 12th Congressional District.

On Wednesday, November 18, 2009, Congressman Barrow welcomed Rev. Matthew Southall Brown, pastor emeritus of St. John Baptist Church, to the U.S. Capitol to deliver the opening prayer in the House of Representatives as the Guest Chaplain.  Each member of Congress is allowed to recommend one religious leader per Congress to serve as Guest Chaplain.  Rev. Brown had the opportunity to meet Speaker Pelosi and House Chaplain Rev. Daniel Coughlin.

On November 12, 2009, Congressman Barrow meet with a group of veterans at Snooky's in Statesboro.  Congressman Barrow has been working with several Bulloch County veterans on trying to get a VA Community-based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Statesboro to offer primary care and mental health services for approximately 5,000 enrolled veterans.  The project is currently undergoing a technical review by the VA.

On October 30, 2009, Congressman Barrow visited with students, administration, and faculty at M.E. Lewis Elementary in Sparta.  The school was recently slated to receive 25 gently-used computers through the government's Computers for Learning (CFL) program.  This program donates computers from federal agencies to schools and other organizations in need.  For more information about the program, call 866-333-7472 or visit http://computersforlearning.gov/.

Barrow Donates Frequent Flyer Miles to American Military Families November 23, 2009

Washington, D.C. - Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) announced today that he has donated over 39,000 frequent flyer miles to the Fisher House's Hero Miles Program, which provides free airline tickets to American soldiers and their families.  Most of Barrow's miles were accumulated traveling back and forth from Georgia to Washington, D.C.

BARROW VOTES TO BOOST RESOURCES FOR FIRE DEPARTMENTS November 18, 2009

Washington, D.C. - Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) voted today to provide local firefighters with the tools and resources they need to prevent and fight fires, and keep our communities safe.  Right now, many towns and cities are facing budget shortfalls and cuts to basic services.  The Fire Grants Reauthorization Act invests in vital firefighter assistance programs that allow local fire departments to provide training, purchase equipment and vehicles, and hire personnel.

Barrow Announces Medicare Part D Workshops in Savannah and Statesboro November 17, 2009

Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) will sponsor Medicare Part D open enrollment workshops in Savannah on December 1, 2009, and Statesboro on December 15, 2009.

Anyone who is enrolled in Medicare Part D or who wants to enroll in the program must sign up or make changes during the open enrollment period which began on November 15, 2009, and ends December 31, 2009. Constituents are encouraged to bring their prescription medications with them to the workshops.
